A practical starting point · Malaysia

Could agents help you sell what you already offer?

A crowded market does not automatically rule out a new sales channel. Start with a product customers want, a reason to choose you, and enough margin to reward the people who help sell it.

Choose the model around the business

What role will your partners play?

Referral

Partners introduce potential customers. Your business handles the sale and fulfilment. Define what counts as a successful referral and when a reward is earned.

Reseller or agent

Partners help sell your products. Decide who takes payment, holds stock, supports customers and handles returns before setting discounts or commissions.

Direct-selling network

A network may need distributor onboarding, reporting relationships and more detailed commission rules. More complexity means more operational work; it does not guarantee more sales.

Can your margin support the reward?

Work from the amount you actually retain after product cost, delivery subsidies, payment fees, discounts, returns and partner rewards.

Illustrative example, not an earnings forecast

RM100 selling price − RM45 product cost − RM10 fulfilment and fees − RM5 allowance for returns − RM15 agent reward = RM25 remaining before overheads and tax.

Use your own figures and test lower sales, higher returns and repeat purchases. A commission plan cannot repair a product that customers do not want or a sale that loses money.

Bring these five things to our discussion.

  1. Your product or service, customer and reason to buy.
  2. Selling price, costs and typical repeat purchase pattern.
  3. How you get orders today and where work gets stuck.
  4. What an agent would do, and how you would reward them.
  5. Your proposed pilot size, budget and timeline.

We can use these to define a manageable first version: onboarding, orders, commission rules and reporting. Any licensing or legal questions need a separate qualified review before launch.
